Principles of Accounting

Recently in class,  we researched Financial Reporting for McDonald's and about the company in general. I learned a number of new things about this fast food company. One that I found interesting is that McDonald's had 13,980 different locations throughout the U.S. in 2009 and increased the number of restaurants to 14,350 locations in 2014. According to their 2014 Financial Information, they have a total of 36,258 store locations around the world. Also, McDonald's keeps the public updated on how they are doing through press releases and reports.I would like to learn more about McDonald's employees benefits.

3-2-1 Ted Talk

In the beginning of the video, he starts out by talking about a specific scene from "The Blues Brothers" movie. This example showed how human beings get used to everyday things really fast. Following this example, he uses an apple and the little sticker that is on it as another example. We all just got used to pulling the sticker off and we do not even think about it. An example of a problem that was fixed was while he was working at Apple and they said charge before use. Steve Jobs came up with testing their product for 2 hours rather than 30 minutes so that when you get the phone it is fully charged and a higher quality. One example of a product that was not very well planned are Serial Wired Christmas Tree lights. They get tangled no matter what and it takes forever for them to be unraveled. Also, when one light goes out you have to find the source and individually change that light bulb. A second example is a motion sensor faucets. They do not always work and you have to constantly wave your hands to get it to turn the water on.
An example of a product that is designed well is a Bladeless fan. They are a safe and brilliant and efficient fan that does not make any noise. If you have kids it is harmless and they will not get their fingers caught in the blades. Also, it produces the same amount of cool air that a regular one.

Frontline

Before reading this article, I did not know that the Bank of America had agreed to a $16.65 billion settlement with the Justice Department to resolve allegations of mortgage-related misconduct in the run-up to the 2008 financial crisis. Also, I did not know that Bank of America will pay a record $9.65 billion cash settlement to the federal government and six states, and provide an additional $7 billion in consumer relief for struggling homeowners. Lastly, I did not know that the penalties for Bank of America, the second biggest U.S. bank, have more than matched the size of its profits since 2009. I would like to know more about the crisis-era litigation.

Scavenger Hunt

On Friday, when we did the class scavenger hunt, I worked in a group of 4. I worked with Kristen, Abby, and Cindy and it helped a lot. Working with partners helped me find the items because we could bounce ideas off of one another to find the items. When I could not think of something I would just ask one of my partners their opinion and then I would be able to find one.
During the scavenger hunt we would ask each other for help when we could not figure something out. I can relate this to some situations in my life.  For example, if I cannot find one of my shoes I may ask my sister to help me find it or if I do not understand something in my Chemistry class then I can ask someone in my class for help.
